Lajos Fon (1926–2017) a businessman, art collector and art lover. He laid the foundations of his art collection in the 1960s. His most ardent desire was that his collection should stay in one piece and that it should be taken over and presented to the public by a museum that treats icons with dignity.

The vast majority of the icons in the collection were made in Russia between the late 18th century and the early 20th century. Only a handful of items represent the icon painting traditions of Romanian and Hungary’s Serbian communities. A number of well-known and extremely rare depictions are found in this selection compiled with great expertise, allowing the viewer to marvel at this theological and artistic heritage of inexhaustible wealth.
