Puskás László Memorial Exhibition Opens in our Museum

In Attraction of the Saint – is the title of the exhibition which is opening in the Greek Catholic Museum. The exhibition is a tribute to the lifetime achievement of Puskás László, the Greek Catholic priest with Transcarpathian origin who was a painter and mosaic artist, too.
Puskás László’s icon painting is unique in many ways. In the beginning he had worldly themed paintings as a qualified painter. His later works – icons and mosaics – reflect the tradition of the Estern Church. His lifework does not only show a switch of genres, but it also represents the change of era in the Greek Catholic church art after the Vatican Council II, namely the turning back to the Estern traditions.
The whole lifework is displayed in three separate rooms. The Reception area gives place to the colourful drafts of the mosaics of the Hungarian Chapel in Basilica of Divine Mercy in Krakow. The cardboards are the drafts of the mosaics in the Community o the Saints Chapel (Communio Sanctorum) on a scale of 1:1.
Another exhibition room shows the artist’s non sacral works from his first artistic period, a third room exibits a collection of his sacral artworks. The exhibition reveals exciting and heartbreaking scenes, is a refelction of real history, because the artist and his family is closely related to the history of the Greek Catholics of Transcarpathia and the persecution of the church. An outstanding piece in the exhibition is the relic holder icon of Blessed Romzsa Tódor, which is surrounded by pictures depicting the important turning points of the martyr bishop’s life.

Dr. Jankáné dr. Puskás Bernadett opens the exhibition.
Date of opening ceremony event: 18th March 2025, 5 pm
